The Gifts is a wonderful adventure fantasy for pre-teens and teens. It tells the story of Zak Fredrickson who begins having odd dreams. Then, one day a dream comes true. Suddenly, he finds himself kidnapped and taken to a mysterious island. On the island, he discovers he is not the only one who has been snatched from his home and is met by hundreds of kids of different ages and backgrounds. They are captives on the island—far away from everything they know and love. He must learn to trust his instincts and leadership by relying on his faith in God. Using the gifts they have all been given, Zak and the group work against the clock to save themselves, and the entire Christian community, from a terrible fate.

About the Author:

My name is Calesse Cardosi and I am 15 years old. Ever since I can remember, I have loved to express myself with words. I have many interesting experiences which kindle ideas in my mind since I have had the opportunity to live in many places all over the world. Born in Chicago, I moved to Athens, Greece when I was seven, San Diego in 2001, Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates just last year, and I am currently residing in Zionsville, Indianapolis.

My passion for writing can be traced to my joy for reading. Since the day I was born, my parents have dutifully sat down with me and had story time, one the times of day I most enjoyed and looked forward to. When I learned how to read on my own, I would gobble up books in my spare time amidst my many activities which consist of volunteering with children, swimming, running, and just being a kid.

I try to implement my own beliefs and values into my work because I believe that God has given me this gift and joy so that I can serve Him.

Excerpt From The Book:

Swinging his limber body over the top, Zak landed skillfully, like a cat, on the cool grass. He peered around at the dark, well-kept yard. There were silhouettes of many different kinds of trees and shrubs in the darkness of the night. Timidly, he tiptoed over to the area beside the workbench, where Rex's cage was kept. A hammer, knife, screwdriver, and some rusty nails were scattered about. Rex's panting reached Zak's ears as he got closer. Nearly tripping on a fallen tree limb, he felt his way over to the heavy metal cage. Wait. He caught his breath at the sight before him. Scared to death, he shook his head and backed away. No, maybe he should do something. Zak had conflicting feelings pulling him in different directions.
